When Security Isn’t Really Security: What We Found After Testing a Big Box Store Security Door

There is something frustrating about seeing homeowners spend money trying to protect their home and family only to be given a false sense of security. That is exactly what happened in the video we recently filmed. A customer showed us the security door they had purchased from a major retailer. From the outside it looked the part. Heavy. Metal. “Secure.” But as soon as we took a closer look, we realized just how easy it would be for someone to force their way inside after testing a big box store security door.

With our bare hands, we were able to untwist the exterior screws and literally remove the door frame. No tools. No special techniques. Nothing dramatic. Just turning the screws and pulling the frame away.

The door looked like security but it was not security at all.

What Went Wrong With That Door

The problem was not just the material. It was the design. The screws were exposed and accessible from the exterior, which means anyone with a bit of time, patience, or bad intentions could do exactly what we did.

Even worse, the lock system was minimal. If someone wanted to pry, twist, or apply pressure, there was nothing stopping them.

This is where many low cost or DIY security doors fail. They look strong because of metal panels or decorative bars but the security isn’t in how it looks. It is in how it is engineered.

How Guardian Security Screens Are Different

At Guardian Security Screens, we design our doors to prevent exactly what happened in that video.

Here is how our doors are built differently:

No Visible Exterior Screws

There is nothing accessible from the outside to loosen or pry open. Everything is internally secured and reinforced, so the door remains locked, anchored, and structurally sound no matter what.

Triple Point Locking System

Instead of one basic latch, our security doors lock at three points along the frame. This distributes strength evenly and prevents bending, prying, or forced leverage attacks.

Reinforced Stainless Steel Mesh

Our screens are not aluminum like the cheaper versions sold in big box stores. Aluminum bends. Stainless steel does not.
Our mesh is tested to withstand up to 380 pounds of direct force. That means kicking, pulling, pushing, prying, tools, and impact. It stays in place.

Built For Real Security

The goal is not to “slow someone down.” The goal is to stop them completely.

The Big Difference: Real Protection vs The Appearance of Protection

This video is a reminder that not everything labeled as “security” actually protects anything. A door that simply looks strong is not enough. Real security must be engineered to prevent intrusion even when someone is actively trying to get in.

Your home, your family, and your peace of mind deserve better than decorative metal.

Why Las Vegas Homeowners Trust Guardian

We are a licensed Las Vegas security screen contractor, not just a reseller. We measure, engineer, install, and maintain everything we sell. We also stand behind our work and are part of the same community we protect.

We have seen what real break-ins look like. We have listened to the stories. We know the emotional toll. And we know prevention is always better than repairing damage after the fact.

If you already have a store bought “security door” and want to know how secure it really is, we are happy to check it. If it is strong, we will say so. If it is not, we will explain why and how to upgrade it properly.

Your home deserves protection that actually protects. Reach out today for a Free Home Security Assessment in Las Vegas.
